We're here with an important update regarding the compatibility of files and games between Sidekick Legacy and our new cloud-based platform, Sidekick Beta. This article aims to clarify the current situation and provide guidance for our users.

What is Sidekick Legacy?

Sidekick Legacy is our downloadable presenter application, designed to deliver engaging and interactive content for your presentations. Over the years, many of you have created and imported numerous games and files into Sidekick Legacy, enhancing your presentations and audience engagement.

Introducing Sidekick Beta:

Sidekick Beta represents a leap forward in accessibility and convenience. As a completely cloud-based platform, it allows you to create, manage, and present your content directly from your browser, without the need for downloads or installations.

Key Difference in File Compatibility:

While we are excited about the capabilities of Sidekick Beta, we want to address an important compatibility issue:

  • Sidekick Legacy Files/Games: These are the files you've previously used or created in the Sidekick Legacy application. They include a variety of games and interactive content tailored for your audience.

  • Sidekick Beta: Our new platform operates entirely in the cloud and has been developed with a different architecture. As a result, Sidekick Beta currently does not support importing or using files and games created in Sidekick Legacy.

Why the Compatibility Issue?

The primary reason for this incompatibility lies in the differing foundations of the two platforms. Sidekick Legacy, being a downloadable app, uses file formats and structures unique to its design. Sidekick Beta, on the other hand, being cloud-based, relies on web-compatible formats and structures that differ significantly from Legacy.

What Does This Mean for You?

  1. Continued Use of Legacy Files: You can still use and enjoy all the features and games within Sidekick Legacy. However, these files will not be transferable to Sidekick Beta.

    1. Any membership that has Sidekick Beta access has Sidekick Legacy access, as well. If you need to download Sidekick Legacy, reach out to customer support for those links.

  2. Creating New Content in Beta: We encourage you to explore and create new content within Sidekick Beta, taking advantage of its cloud-based flexibility and new features.

  3. Future Updates: We are continually working on enhancing Sidekick Beta, and part of our roadmap includes exploring ways to bridge this compatibility gap. We'll keep you updated on any developments.
